Mike Back On Track

Mike back on Track

Mike Goodfellow is delighted to announce that he has agreed a sponsorship package for 2011 to race a new BMW S1000RR in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Series, a support race to the British Superbike programme.  Vines BMW supplied the bike and Carbontek has prepared it.

Mike was back on track at the opening round held over the Easter weekend in glorious sunshine and unusually high temperatures at Brands Hatch.

Friday was free practice for half an hour during which time he was struggling to get a good setting for the quick conditions, meaning the bike was bucking and weaving under the 200 bhp and he could only get a lap time of 48.6 seconds on the short Indy circuit (below his personal best and obviously the bike’s capabilities).

The suspension was changed and during Saturday’s Qualifying session Mike’s time improved to 47.7 seconds with better drive and handling.  This put him 7th in his group and 14th when the two groups were combined.  There were 52 entries in the class and only 38 places available on the grid.

The second Qualifying session on Sunday did not see any improvement on his time while other settings, gearing and tweaks were tried resulting in him starting on the 5th row of the grid in P19.

Mid-morning on Monday Mike was on the grid for a 24 lap race.  Unfortunately after only 3 laps there were 7 riders down around the circuit and the race was stopped.  At the restart Mike was down in 26th but gradually worked his way up to 20th at the end of the shortened race.

There is still plenty to learn about the BMW with various things to try but it won’t be long before Mike is in the points.  The next round is at Oulton Park, Cheshire over May Day weekend.

Thank you to the team and of course all his sponsors: Four Anjels, Carbontek, All Car Leasing, BKS Leathers and Shark Helmets.

Logopolis are proud to supply Mike and his team with uniform and wish them every success for the season.
